FM200 (HFC-227ea) system
Gas Type: It is a substitute for Halon (Hydrofluorocarbon - HFC). It is a liquefied gas stored under pressure. Method of Action: It works primarily chemically. The FM200 molecule absorbs heat energy from the fire and then decomposes to form free radicals that react with fuel and oxygen radicals in a combustion reaction, breaking the chemical chain reaction and extinguishing the fire. Advantages: Very fast (typically 10-60 seconds to extinguish). Low extinguishing concentration (about 7-8% of the room volume), which means it requires a smaller amount of storage compared to other gases such as CO2. Safe for humans at the concentrations used for extinguishing (it can remain in the room during the system evacuation for a short time to escape). Leaves no residue after use.
